The 16,349 +/- acre Deerhorn Creek property presents an exciting blend of Pine, Fir and Larch forests surrounding vast native grass lands and Aspen lined streams and springs. A spectacular timbered valley with its year-round mountain stream support an abundance of wildlife known to inhabit Easter Oregon's beautiful Blue Mountains Range including Rocky mountain Elk, Mule Deer, Black Bear and Cougar. Wild Turkeys are ever increasing residents in the area. Recreational oppertininities are seemingly endless with direct access to the adjacent Umatilla National Forest, BLM and County owned lands. Isolated on three sides by sensational ridges and bold basalt outcroppings, the Deerhorn Creek offering extends its investment strength in timber, grasses, water and wildlife.
Deerhorn Creek is located within a 65 mile drive from the City of Pendleton and 19 miles from the ranching community of Ukiah. Managed primarily as a winter range for Elk and year-round habitat for Mule Deer, the 15,206 acre Bridge Creek State Wildlife Area is situated approximately one mile off the east boundary of the Deerhorn Creek Property. More than 1,000 Elk may congregate here during the winter months to escape snows at higher elevations and feed on native rangelands. Five miles Creek runs a secluded two mile course within the property just a short distance above its confluence with Camas Creek which then joins the North Fork of the John Day River only three miles south of Deerhorn Creek.
The neighboring Umatilla National Forest Covers 1.4 million acres of diverse landscapes and plant communities. The Forest has some mountainous terrain, but most of the Forest consists of v-shaped valleys separated by narrow ridges or plateaus. The landscape also includes heavily timbered slopes, grassland ridges and benches. Elevations throughout the Forest range from 1,600 to 8,000 feet above sea level. Changes in weather are common, but hot summers are generally warm and dry with cool evenings. Cold, Snowy winters and mild temperatures during the spring and fall can be expected.
